A case for supporting arten — an independent chamber theatre in Yerevan, Armenia.

The story

In 2018, director Alexander Teterev-Kosach first came to Armenia — during the Velvet Revolution — and was struck by the people and by what was happening in the country. At the end of 2022 he opened, together with his team, an independent theatre dedicated to overcoming alienation between people.

Through every relocation the company kept its people and its repertoire. Today arten runs its own hand-built venue at 2 Lusinyants Street: a chamber stage for about fifty guests, open daily.

What happens here

An active repertoire of original performances, open rehearsals, lectures, film screenings, exhibitions and festival readings — including the Lyubimovka new-drama readings, hosted three years running.

Five days a week the theatre runs the Uzhe Course, an acting laboratory built on authored methods: physical theatre, speech training, verbatim playwriting, rhythm, seminars on Hegel and Lacan, theatre history. Its goal is a professional company grown inside the theatre — the seed of a future acting school.

Why now

The theatre has reached a growth point: the space exists, the team is stable, the programme runs — and it all stands on ticket income and the team's own means. A patron's support turns holding-on into building: securing the venue for years ahead, producing new work, opening the school.

What support looks like

We are looking for partners who think in seasons, not in tickets. The scale is yours to choose:

Our principles

Money and artistic decisions stay separate here. Support does not buy influence over the repertoire — and we intend to keep it that way. What it buys is co-authorship of the fact that this place exists.

Every six months, partners receive a concise report: what was done and where the funds went.
